In Episode #007 The Power of Discipline, Hip Hop and Zen Buddhism to Gaze Deep Within, we move up to the second level of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and talk about how our constant pursuit of Safety and Comfort gets in the way of achieving our higher purpose. Unadorned Suffering is the bedmate of Masculine Growth, aka: we must give up what we are in order to become what we will be.

Discipline is choosing what you want most over what you want right now.

Augusta F. Kantra

Show Notes:

Life is full of paradoxes. We're going to first open our minds to what our life could be, then we're going to remove fear and listen instead to our heart. Discipline your mind against the agenda of media and look deep within yourself for the answers to life's questions.

Stop Seeking Security and Comfort

  • We're wired to Seek Certainty
  • We're wired to seek uncertainty (paradox)
  • Security/fear keep us where we are (instead of becoming our higher selves.)
  • Fear and Inoculating yourself against other people's ideas.
  • Fear exists only in your mind. If you would like to transcend it checkout episode #16 on "Top-Line Philosophy"

Stop Seeking Pleasure and Avoiding Pain

  • We're wired to avoid pain (Freud's pain pleasure principle)
  • "Unadorned Suffering is the bedmate of masculine growth" -David Deida
  • Things that are easy to do at first become hard over time and vice versa. -The Slight Edge
  • For what is each day but a series of choices between the right way and the easy way. -Csaba Gabor

Level 2: Discipline The Mind (Upcoming Episodes)

  • Cultivating Shosin or "beginners mind" -Zen Buddhism
  • Meditation which leads to silencing the monkey mind and asking yourself the deep questions of life.
  • Fear and Innoculating yourself against other people's ideas.
  • Goal Setting Escaping Paralysis
  • The hard work of deserving your goals
  • Discipline your mind against the agenda of media and look deep within yourself for the answers to life's questions.
